Two Bridges inmates face drug charges

Two men indicted by a Kennebec County grand jury in February are among a group of a half-dozen inmates charged with trafficking in illegal contraband at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.

John W. Grotton, 26, of Augusta, was charged May 11 with trafficking in prison contraband, Maj. Ken Mason of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Grotton also was charged with violating conditions of release.

Jacob D. Russell, 27, of Bass Harbor, was charged May 16 with trafficking in prison contraband.
Police did not specify what the contraband was.

The charges stem from a joint investigation by Detective Sgt. Kenneth Hatch of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Sgt. Robert Banks of Two Bridges Regional Jail.

Grotton was indicted in Kennebec County Superior Court on 93 charges, including 40 counts of burglary, 38 counts of theft by unauthorized taking, 13 counts of violation of condition of release and one count each of stealing drugs and attempted burglary. The burglaries occurred last fall across central Maine.
