FARMINGDALE — The Hall-Dale High School girls tennis team won its second consecutive Mountain Valley Conference championship with a closer-than-it-looks 4-1 decision Wednesday over Dirigo.

“It’s exciting because the girls have such focus in their work,” Hall-Dale coach Guy Cousins said. “Clearly, it was between two quality skilled teams.”

Hall-Dale (13-0) defeated Dirigo 4-1 in the regular season, although two of their victories came in matches that were decided in tiebreakers.

“We knew that one could’ve swung either way,” Cousins said. “We knew (Wednesday) would be a competitive match.”

Two of the matches went three sets, with the Bulldogs winning both.

Clio Barr defeated Addy Fuller at second singles, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5. Anais Truman and Maura Stottler then beat Michelle Morrison and Pin Jintasataporn at No. 1 doubles, 7-6 (7-2), 2-6, 7-5.

Hall-Dale No. 1 singles player Wendy Goldman easily won her match, dispatching Betsy Noyes 6-0, 6-1. Hall-Dale also won at No. 2 doubles, with Jana Parsons and Nicole Pelletier defeating Carol Howe and Grace Hebert 6-0, 6-2.

“It was a lot of excitement,” Cousins said. “There were a lot of great rallies.”

Softball

Leavitt 7, Oak Hill 6: The Hornets scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh, after the Raiders scored six runs in the top of the inning to tie it, to earn a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B win in Turner.

Oak Hill (8-7) trailed 6-0 going into the seventh inning. In the seventh, Bryanna Hodgkins and Kortni Michaud each had RBI doubles and the Raiders had five hits.

Kayla Veilleux had three singles for the Raiders. Hodgkins and Michaud each had two doubles and Alyssa Rouleau had two singles.

Tori Zupancic had three singles for Leavitt (10-4).

Erskine Academy 11, Lewiston 0: Ashley Green struck out four batters and allowed one hit in a complete-game shutout as the Eagles defeated the Blue Devils (2-12) in Lewiston.

Meryl Bond smacked two doubles for Erskine (11-3), while Mikhaela Helm had a single and a double. Alison Gauvin and Hannah Peabody each had two singles for the Eagles.

Lisbon 4, Monmouth 0: Alex Harmon had two singles as the Greyhounds handed the Mustangs their first loss of the season, in Monmouth.

Daisy Poole and Sabrina Beck each had two singles for Monmouth (10-1).

Kaitlyn Hill added a double for Lisbon (8-4).

Messalonskee 6, Lawrence 1: Four players had two singles each as the Eagles beat the Bulldogs in a KVAC A game in Oakland.

Phoebe Pelletier, Courtney Veilleux, Nikki Collier and Natalie Hunt all had two singles for Messalonskee (12-2). Bri Garland added a double and Kylee Knight a triple.

Sophie Lindsay had an RBI double in the third for Lawrence (2-12).

Hall-Dale 12, Winthrop 6: The Bulldogs scored 10 runs ove rthe final three innings en route to the MVC win in Winthrop. Morgan Rush and Amara Truman had three hits each for Hall-Dale (8-6) while Emily Maynard and Laura Allen each singled twice, Danielle Pease had three hits for Winthrop (4-8) while Cat Ouellette, Alyssa Arsenault, Teri Tricarico and Abby Helm had two hits each.

Girls lacrosse

Cony 12, Messalonskee 11: Mia Diplock and Chelsea Begin each scored four goals to lead the Rams in a KVAC A game.

The teams played a half Tuesday before it was suspended due to rain.

However, the teams had to play from the start Wednesday, and the Rams (8-2) held the slight edge.

Bailey Logan scored a pair of goals and Katrina Duncan had 10 saves to earn the victory.

Sarah Grenier scored five goals and Sydney Gagne added four to lead the Eagles (5-5). Izzy Skinner had 12 saves.
