SKOWHEGAN — Kennebec Valley Community Action Program’s Child and Family Services has partnered with the Somerset Career and Technical Center of School Administrative District 54 to offer students the opportunity to work hands-on in a preschool setting.
Skowhegan Child Development Center has an enrollment of approximately 30 families serving children ages 6 weeks old to 5 years old. The 2011-12 school year was the first year students of the Somerset Career and Technical Center were offered programming in early childhood education. Both juniors and seniors worked with CFS staff to expand their level of knowledge in child development that encompassed theory and applied practice.
Skowhegan’s Head Start and Early Head Start program is part of a network of 12 child care and preschool sites operated by KVCAP. Serving more than 600 children and families over northern Kennebec and Somerset counties, KVCAP’s child-centered model earned national recognition.
