What a shame it has to come to a vote to remove St. Francis Church. How wonderful for the elderly to be able to live where they have so many memories.

My husband’s family has always and still has the home behind the church, and we lived there when St. Francis ran a school (another memory).

We brought up our eight children at St. Theresa’s in Oakland as did many other families. It was a very sad day when the doors closed, just as it was for the people in Fairfield and Vassalboro when their churches were closed. But you move and remember the old times.

I’m not judging, but I wonder, what if some of the people complaining about St. Francis being replaced with housing had continued to attend church? Perhaps it would have remained open.

As we get older, our younger families will know about all of this only by what they are told.

It’s not always easy to move on, but God is everywhere, so I continue as a member of Corpus Christi and attend Notre Dame. I hope you find a place as well.
