HALLOWELL—Two women were hurt during a car crash Tuesday on Water Street after the driver became distracted by a dog, police said.
Hallowell Police Chief Eric Nason said the driver, Somer Mongeon, 33, of Farmingdale and her passenger, 33-year-old Amy Breton, suffered what were believed to be non life-threatening injuries. A police report of the accident did not indicate whether the women were taken to the hospital.
Mongeon was issued a summons charging her with operating an unregistered motor vehicle beyond 150 days.
The crash occurred shortly before 4 p.m. as Mongeon’s 2006 Toyota car went off the right side of the road as she drove north on Water Street.
“There was a dog that apparently she became distracted by enough to drift off the road and strike a utility pole,” Nason said.
Initial police reports indicated the vehicle rolled over, but the police report did not indicate whether a rollover occurred, Nason said. The women were able to free themselves from the car.
“I think there was minimal damage to the utility pole,” Nason said.
