It was with great pride to see the unveiling of the new veterans monument in Hallowell.
I volunteered to reconstruct the World War ll monument by the post office in 1993 as a tribute to my father, Sheridan Truman, whose name was on the original that was dedicated in 1945.
A newspaper picture and most of the original name plates were all that was available. Time and the weather were taking its toll on the wooden structure, and I suggested that a more durable replacement be made that didn’t need maintenance.
Legionnaires stepped up to the plate to produce what was unveiled this weekend. God bless our veterans.
