WATERVILLE — The defending Eastern Maine champion Waterville girls cruised to a 5-0 win against John Bapst in the Eastern B quarterfinals Thursday.
Colleen O’Donnell amd Olivia Lopes each won 6-0, 6-0 at first and second singles for the Purple Panthers, while Jayme Saulter won 6-2, 6-0.
The first doubles team of Lauren Hallebeck and Emily Dufour won 6-0, 6-2 whiel the second doubles team of Melanie Bureau and Brittany Saulter won 6-0, 4-6, 6-3.
Top-seeded Waterville (13-0) will host No. 5 Mt. Desert Island at noon Saturday.
Class A boys
No. 5 Messalonskee 3, No. 4 Brunswick 2: The Eagles pulled off the upset in Brunswick with Jai Aslam and Billy Noble winning at first and third singles.
Aslam defeated Jon Gross 6-1, 6-3 while Noble beat Cormicj Gaughran 6-7 (7-5), 6-4, 6-2.
The first doubles team of Ben Collins and Tyler Jones also won for the Eagles, beating Blake Gordon and Derek Devereau 6-2, 7-5.
Messalonskee (8-5) advances to play No. 1 Bangor while Brunswick finishes at 9-4.
Bangor 5, Erskine 0: The top-seeded Rams shut out the Eagles in an Eastern Maine quarterfinal, winning all three singles matches anmd both doubles in straight sets.
Bangor (13-0) advances to play Messalonskee, while No. 8 Erskine finishes at 4-9.
