It has been a few years since Skowhegan has had a Memorial Day parade.

This Memorial Day was a wonderful tribute by the town of Skowhegan to veterans and those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. It was not huge, but it was well done, with veterans leading tasteful floats representing various organizations of the area.

Motorcycles, horses and antique cars also were included. The Skowhegan Middle School Band marched proudly and presented its talents to an appreciative crowd along the parade route. Bell ringers also contributed to the mood with patriotic music.

One special marcher portrayed a mourning widow dressed in black from head to toe. It was a goosebumps moment.

Last but not least, firetrucks and amublances brought up the rear. Even though they could not squeak their sirens, it was the climax to the parade.

Thanks to organizers and participants for remembering respectfully.
