READFIELD — The board of the Union Meeting House will raffle off a lightweight quilt depicting the 50 states to support the restoration of the historic building on Readfield’s Church Road.

The 1827 meeting house, which features trompe l’oeil paintings by Charles Schumacher, is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The queen-sized bedspread, which also could serve as a wall hanging, was created by the late Dawn L. Wile of Waldoboro and donated by her family. It features a map of the United States, an image of the Liberty Bell, and a square for each state, including the state’s silhouette, bird and tree, and year of statehood.

Tickets cost $1 each. They may be purchased by calling 685-3812 or sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to States Quilt, P.O. Box 294, Kents Hill, ME 04349. They also may be purchased from any member of the Union Meeting House committee.

The drawing will take place on Heritage Weekend in August, and the quilt will also be on display at the Union Meeting House at that time. The winner need not be present for the drawing.
