AUGUSTA — Jacob Hickey, a seventh-grade student at St. Michael School, placed third in the State Civic Oration Contest sponsored by Modern Woodmen of America.

The contest was held at St. Dominic Academy in Auburn. Jacob received a $50 cash award and a trophy. This year’s topic was “A Time When Volunteers Made A Difference.” Jacob’s speech was on the volunteer militia of the Revolutionary War.
