For the past four years, I have had the honor and pleasure to work at the Building Blocks Head Start program on the former AMHI campus in Augusta.

On Friday, Building Blocks closed its doors forever.

I want to thank my colleagues for being such great professionals in the field of early childhood education. We have made a difference in the lives of hundreds of children and young families. I will always hold dear the moments that we saw families rise from the worst of circumstances to become great success stories.

I look forward to seeing again those with whom I will work in a different program. I will miss those of my friends who have chosen a different path.

I want to thank the past and current parents of Building Blocks for their trust. We were honored to be entrusted to care for their children.

We hope they remember the Head Start saying: “You are your child’s most important teacher.”

It was and remains a great privilege to be a small part of their families. Their laughs, volunteerism and commitment to parenting will be missed.

The greatest thanks go to the children of Building Blocks. They sustained us during the uncertainty about our futures. Whether it was a laugh, a new discovery or a hug goodbye, we will always miss the wonderful imprint they have made on our lives. May the joys they experience in life be more bountiful than there are stars in the sky!

Please join me in a salute for this wonderful resource that has served our community.
