NORTH ANSON — Students of biology and environmental science classes at Carrabec High School are collaborating with the Embden Lake Association to build teams that will survey the lake for invasive aquatic plants this summer.
The Embden Lake Association needs help to monitor lakes and ponds around the area for invasive aquatic plants. There will be a workshop from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Carrabec High School to train in identification of these dangerous plants in the water. After completing the workshop, students can participate in student/adult teams that will monitor the lake for invasive plant life Saturday, Aug. 11. The rain date will be Sunday, Aug. 12. Kayaks and life jackets will be provided. Students will use underwater cameras and global positioning systems to document native and invasive plants for future website information. The workshop is open to the public and will be hosted by Carrabec High School and the Embden Lake Association.

All workshop participants will receive an “Invasive Plant Patroller’s Handbook,” and the “Maine Field Guide to Invasive Aquatic Plants.”
