SKOWHEGAN — Police continued the search Wednesday for a man who robbed a convenience store Tuesday evening.

Detectives now believe a vehicle may have been used in the getaway after the robbery at Stony Brook Market on U.S. Route 2, said Deputy Police Chief Dale Lancaster.

Lancaster said the lone white male was armed with a blade of some kind, possibly a pair of scissors, and wore a ski mask and gloves. He said there is no indication that anyone else was involved in the robbery.

During their search Tuesday, Somerset County Sheriff’s Department deputies were led by a tracking dog to woods and fields along a stream behind the store. The area borders Dudley Corner Road.

Maine state troopers also assisted in patrolling the area.

The robber left on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash and packets of cigarettes. He was described by a store employee as white, 5 feet, 5 inches to 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with medium to slim build and dark brown eyes.

He was wearing tan pants and a white, long sleeve T-shirt or light sweatshirt, Lancaster said.

A female clerk was working alone at the market at the time of the robbery, Lancaster said.

“She did the right thing,” he said. “She complied with his demands.”

Police are reviewing video from the store.

Lancaster asked anyone with information on the crime to call police at 474-6908.
