Moscow should get out of SAD 13 and leave Bingham holding the bag if things don’t change dramatically.

In my opinion, if we really, truly and honestly want to educate students in SAD 13, start with reading, writing and arithmetic in kindergarten through grade eight. There is plenty of time in high school for computers.

Years ago, the teachers were in the classroom teaching and helping those needing extra help. They stayed after hours and gave help, and they did their “prep” work at home on their own time. I believe that devotion to students is greatly lacking in education today.

Students now have difficulty comprehending, even reading, and learning to use their brains. They can turn cartwheels with a computer, but many have not been taught to understand, to reason and to think for themselves.

What do you call education then? I call it a very expensive system that has failed to prepare the students for their futures.

There is no room for greed nor arrogance in education. If it’s money and a fat retirement educators want, a small town with taxpayers on fixed incomes is not for them. They should go where the money is.

Education in my day did not consist of teachers’ associations, boards of education, negotiators and attorneys, and boards of directors to protect educators’ incomes and benefits.

Education in my day meant teaching, sacrificing and devoting time and knowledge to the young for the sake of their future.

Somehow, some way, it seems that educators in SAD 13 have to turn it around and start putting the students first, not last.

The future of our towns, state and country depends on an educated population, one student at a time.
