Electronic waste collection is today
AUGUSTA — A collection of electronic waste — televisions, fax machines, copiers, computers, monitors, cell phones and household batteries, etc. — is set for 9 a.m. 3 p.m. today at the Augusta Civic Center’s lower parking lot.
People dropping off items are asked to make a contribution to the United Way of Kennebec Valley in lieu of a disposal fee.
Those donations will support local food banks.
Waterville man going back to jail
AUGUSTA — A Waterville man will go back to jail for two years after his probation was revoked as part of a new sentence.
Chad E. Gilley, 38, of Waterville, was convicted last week in Kennebec County Superior Court of theft of services and theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, which occurred Feb. 10 in Waterville. He was previously convicted of burglary.
On the new convictions, he received a four-year jail sentence, all suspended, and two years of probation. That sentence begins after the probation revocation.
He also was ordered to pay $4,562 restitution.
Fireworks, bridgeon Litchfield agenda
LITCHFIELD — At least two heated issues — fireworks and a potential bridge closure — are on the agenda for the regular selectmen’s meeting which begins 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Town Office on Hallowell Road.
Selectmen will discuss adopting an ordinance banning the sale and use of consumer fireworks in the town. The ban was proposed by Selectman Rayna Leibowitz.
Several residents asked that the selectmen discuss the potential closure of Lunts Hill Road bridge.
The Maine Turnpike Authority is considering whether to fund the rehabilitation of that bridge over the turnpike and most recently did a house-to house survey of residents living on both sides of the bridge.
Winthrop board will meet early
WINTHROP — Some administrative changes are among the items to be discussed Monday at the school board’s regular meeting, which begins at 5:30 p.m. at the high school.
The meeting time is earlier than usual to accommodate the 7 p.m. graduation of 16 students from the adult education program. That graduation will also be held at the high school.
The board is being asked to accept the resignation of Michael Jack, who has been dean of students and athletic director at both the middle school and high school.
In addition, Karen Criss is to return to the job as principal of the middle school and Keith Morin will become high school principal.
Watershed board to meet Tuesday
WINTHROP — The Cobbossee Watershed Board of Trustees will hold its regular meeting 7 p.m. Tuesday in the second floor conference room of the Winthrop Police Station.
The board will hear a lake water levels report as well as other reports
Three vying for two Windsor seats
WINDSOR — Three men are vying for two seats on the Windsor Board of Selectmen.
Chairman Ray Bates is seeking another three years on the board, and challengers are Daniel Gordon and Joseph Greenwood.
Bates served on the Windsor Planning Board from 1985 to 1987, was selectmen from 2000 to 2003 and has been chairman of the Budget Committee.
Gordon, who ran unsuccessfully for a selectman’s seat last year, is a retired MaineGeneral Medical Center employee and also has worked transporting school students enrolled in special education.
He has been the Windsor Day Committee’s parade coordinator and a trustee at North Windsor Baptist Church.
It is the first bid for public office for Greenwood, a retired salesman, who moved from Massachusetts to Windsor with his wife six years ago.
He is a volunteer at the Windsor Food Bank, a member of the Lions Club and the North Windsor Baptist Church.
Chelsea selectmen will meet Wednesday
CHELSEA — Selectmen will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Chelsea Elementary School.
They will discussi town goals, the 2012-13 municipal budget, and town meeting preparation. The annual Town Meeting is 6:30 p.m., June 21, at the Chelsea Elementary School.
The municipal election is Tuesday. Polls will be open 8 a.m.-8 p.m. at the fire station.
