SOUTH CHINA — Travis St. Pierre doubled with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning and scored on an error as the Messalonskee baseball team beat Hampden Academy 3-2 in an Eastern B semifinal game Saturday at Erskine Academy.

No. 4 Messalonskee improves to 13-6 and will play No. 2 Lewiston in the regional final Tuesday at Morton Field in Augusta. No. 8 Hampden ends the season 9-9.

St. Pierre doubled to right field with two outs in the eighth inning. Devin Warren then swung at the third strike, which got away from Hampden catcher Patrick Later. Warren ran to first and Later’s rushed throw got away from Hampden first baseman Fred Knight, allowing St. Pierre to score from second.

Hampden tied the game in the top of the seventh when Cam Libbey reached on an infield single, moved to second on a sac bunt, and scored on Matt Palmer’s fielder’s choice.

Warren also had an RBI single for Messalonskee and pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing both runs.
