JACKMAN — When life doesn’t follow the script, it’s important to adapt.

That’s the message from Sean Danforth to the class of seven at Forest Hills Consolidated School who graduated Saturday.

Danforth should know.

The former golf superintendent used to live and work in Maine in the summer and Florida in the winter.

“It was a nice lifestyle,” he said, adding that as a professional courtesy he could play for free on any course of his choosing.

Danforth recently moved to Jackman, where he and fiancée Kimberly Levesque, a sixth-grade teacher at Forest Hills, bought a home and are raising their 1-year-old son Rory.

Danforth still manages turf, but it’s with his new On the Ball Landscaping business rather than putting greens.

And this school year, Danforth, who graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, cleaned at the kindergarten through 12th-grade school and worked with school sports teams on their strength and conditioning.

“With hard work and perseverance, you will get your goals,” Danforth said. “Just don’t expect all your goals to happen the way you planned.”

Principal Denise Plante said seniors chose Danforth because of his attitude and “because he has cared about their well-being, made relationships with them, and he knows what it’s like to have dreams and go a different route in reaching them.”

A positive attitude will be important for all the 2012 graduates, Plante said.

“With the right attitude, the problems that present themselves to us can be solved easier and faster,” she said.

Plante said she’s confident the graduates will meet challenges that come their way.

The seven in the graduating class have a variety of plans, Plante said.

Patricia Allen and Tamara Allen intend to move to Madison.

Anthony Carrier wants to work at his family’s business and enter local politics.

Joey Gilbert will study criminal justice at Central Maine Community College in Auburn and class valedictorian Rochelle Jalbert will enter the U.S. Air Force to become a linguistic interpreter.

Salutatorian Ethan Levesque, who is Kimberly Levesque’s brother, will study at Kennebec Valley Community College and Raymond Petrin plans to study mechanics at Central Maine Community College.
