WINTHROP — Craig Hickman has defeated Kevin Cookson 757-215 in the Democratic primary for House District 82, according to updated results.
Hickman faces Republican Scott Davis in November’s general election. The district serves Readfield and Winthrop.
Patrick Flood, a Republican who represents District 82, is not seeking re-election because of term limits.
Hickman, 44, co-owner and operator of an organic farm and bed and breakfast on Annabessacook Road, was the Democratic nominee for District 82 in 2010 and has been vice chairman of the Winthrop Democrats from 2010 to present.
Cookson, a retired detective for the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office who now owns his own investigation business, served on the Winthrop Town Council for 12 years and spent nine years on the Kennebec County Budget Committee.
Hickman and Cookson hope to attract good paying jobs to Maine. Hickman said the state must do a better job of encouraging local food production and consumption. Cookson said it is vital to begin offering education that will meet the technical requirements of the state’s top employers.
