Results were unavailable late Tuesday in the race for the House District 29 Republican nomination. Candidates were Robert Engelhardt and John Ring, both of Pittsfield.

House District 29 comprises Clinton, Detroit and Pittsfield.

Engelhardt, 70, a small-business owner and newcomer to politics, said he supports measures to curb welfare fraud.

Ring, 71, a former councilman and mayor of Pittfield, also favors welfare reform.

The winner faces Democratic candidate Stanley Short of Pittsfield. Term limits prevent incumbent Rep. Stacey Fitts, R-Pittsfield, from running.
