Ellen A. Winchenbach defeated Henry B. Simmons 506-310 in the Republican primary race for House District 50, according to unofficial results.
Winchenbach, 55, of Waldoboro, is running to succeed Rep. Dana Dow, R-Waldoboro, who is not seeking re-election. She will face Democrat Joel A. Pitcher, of Jefferson, in the November election.
The district includes Bremen, Jefferson, Nobleboro and Waldoboro.
Winchenbach, 56, is a cosmetologist and former Waldoboro selectman. She serves on the town and Lincoln County budget committees.
Winchenbach said she worked on legislative campaigns for Dow and former Sen. David Trahan, also a Waldoboro Republican. She said that as representative she would draw on her experience running a business and serving in local government.
“I like people,” she said. “I listen. I’m a detail person, and I study my subjects before I make decisions on the issues. I’m a voice for the community, and my priority is my district.”
Simmons, 47, a former Nobleboro selectman, ran unsuccessfully for the District 50 Republican nomination in 2008 and 2010.
