VASSALBORO — Voters on Tuesday re-elected incumbent Philip Haines to the Board of Selectmen and chose a new person for the school committee.

Haines, 66, served as a selectman from 1982 to 1989 and again from 1993 to 1999 before running three years ago. In Tuesday’s election, he defeated Marshall Crandall, 43. The vote was 324-177.

In the school committee race, newcomer Jolene Clark Gamage defeated incumbent Frederick Denico, 276-233.

In addition, Vassalboro Town Manager Mary Sabins said Wednesday that the town will hold a special election June 28 to ask voters to ratify the $6.6 million school budget. The school budget question was inadvertently left off ballots on Tuesday. The vote will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the town office, 682 Main St.
