WATERVILLE — Police have arrested a man in connection with a stabbing on Spring Street in April.

Charles Bellows, 20, was charged with stabbing Michael Reed twice in the back April 8, police Chief Joseph Massey said Wednesday.

Reed spent nine days at MaineMedical Center in Portland because of injury to his lungs during the attack, Massey said.

Bellows was in Kennebec County jail in Augusta for theft when he was charged May 31 in the stabbing, Massey said. He had stolen prescription drugs from a woman who lives in Waterville, he said.

“We’re pleased to have finally solved that stabbing,” he said.

Bellows’ last known address is 24 Spruce St., he said.

The stabbing was one of five in recent months, but unrelated to the other cases, Massey said.

“We feel comfortable that out of the five, we will clear four of them,” he said.

Following a stabbing May 9, Demetrio Bautista, 19, of 51 Western Ave., Apt. 2, was arrested and charged with elevated aggravated assault after allegedly stabbing a 20-year-old man in Bautista’s apartment.

Other stabbings:

* April 26: Two men were stabbed outside the Chez Paree nightclub in the city’s South End. One man was slashed across the chest so deeply that his ribs were visible; the other man was stabbed in the elbow and groin, according to Massey.

* April 28: A woman suffered minor cuts, including to her face, after a man forced his way into her home and assaulted her. She was taken to the hospital for treatment.
