Voters in Unity-based Regional School Unit 3 validated the $19,240,500 budget Tuesday by 302 votes, 753-451.

The total is $21,000 more than the 2011-12 budget.

The $21,000, which restored an elementary physical education position from half to full time, was added at the May 23 district meeting.

School directors had cut the position to half time while developing the proposed budget.

Superintendent Heather Perry said the total passed in nine of the 11 district communities; Thorndike and Waldo voters rejected the request.

Voters also approved the district spending as much as $75,000 from a capital construction reserve account to build a storage shed for athletic, groundskeeping and transportation equipment.
