BREWER — Kayla Dube struck out 14 and allowed just four hits as Penobscot Valley won its first-ever softball state title with a 4-2 victory over Richmond in the Class D final Saturday morning.
Richmond went up 2-0 in the top of the first inning, but had only two hits the rest of the way. Both of those were in the fifth inning, when the Bobcats loaded the bases with one out but did not score.
PVHS scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning to take the lead for good. Jenna Hope drove in the final two runs with a two-out single. The Howlers added another run in the sixth on a two-out RBI single by Shaelyn Jones.
