CHINA — Chinese food will return to town now that the Planning Board has awarded a conditional use permit to China Town Chinese Restaurant.
The board voted Tuesday to allow Wai Houng Lam to open a takeout restaurant in the China Mini Mall at 16 Vassalboro Road. It will be located in the same space as the now-closed Golden Island Chinese restaurant. Lam said he expects to employ three to four people.
He told the board that he hopes to open in August. Hours of operation would be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
The board also considered an after-the-fact conditional use permit application from Steven Mayo of SM Custom Fabrication on 5 Freeman Road Extension. Mayo is operating a commercial-industrial fabrication business that makes custom aluminum truck beds. The board voted not to hold a public hearing, and is scheduled to vote July 17 on his permit application.
