FREEPORT — Darren Veilleux of Winslow was recently awarded a scholarship by The Maine Innkeepers Education Foundation, affiliated with the Maine Innkeepers Association at the eighth annual Tees & Textbooks event, at the Senator Inn and SPA in Augusta.

Veilleux is a student at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I. His goals are to become a personal chef and ultimately goal to become a chef instructor at J&W. Veilleux plans to work at the Ocean House in Westerly, R.I. this summer.

Veilleux received the John “Jack” Gibbons of Fisherman’s Wharf Scholarship Award of $600, sponsored by Fisherman’s Wharf of Boothbay Harbor and Peter Daigle of Lafayette Hotels.

Scholarships are awarded by a selection committee who consider scholastic records, financial need, extracurricular activities and a desire to work in hospitality to Maine students enrolled at fully accredited schools with specialties in culinary arts or hotel administration.
