ACADIA NATIONAL PARK — The National Park Service and U.S. Mint officials are launching a new quarter that pays honor to Acadia National Park.

A ceremony is scheduled this morning at the park’s Hulls Cove visitor center. The event includes a coin exchange where people can purchase $10 rolls of newly minted Acadia National Park quarters at face value.

The new quarter depicts a view of the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse. It’s the 13th quarter that is being released in the America the Beautiful Quarters Program, a multi-year initiative that honors 56 national parks and other national sites.

Five new quarters are being released each year. One site in each state plus Washington, D.C., and the five U.S. territories are being featured as part of the program, which continues through 2021.
