What is the point of legalizing fireworks in Maine?

I am a resident of Waterville and have been lighting fireworks for about a month for my children and family.

Of course, I’ve been abiding by the law since Waterville’s new ban was put into effect. So, to make a long story short, I decided to head over to a lake out of Waterville and light them. After about 20 minutes, I see a flashing set of lights speeding down the dirt road like there was an emergency.

The officer said police had received 35 calls from residents surrounding the lake and wrote a ticket me for violating some kind of residential code.

In my opinion, if fireworks are such a problem then why were they legalized in the first place? If the state wasn’t prepared to let people enjoy them in the privacy of their own yards within respectful times then they should do away with them totally again. That way the people that enjoy this activity wouldn’t be tempted to disturb the peace or for cities and towns to have to go out of their way to make new laws and bans against them.

The one positive thing that has come from the legalization is more jobs for our community.
