FARMINGTON — The University of Maine at Farmington recently announced events set for July. All the following events are free and open to the public unless otherwise stated:

* Evening geocaching, 4:45 p.m., Monday, July 9, Fitness & Recreation Center.

* Evening flat water canoe and kayak, 5:15 p.m., Tuesday, July 10, Fitness & Recreation Center/Clearwater Lake. For all ability levels. Meet at the FRC at 5:15 p.m., the group will depart at 5:30 p.m. Cost is $5 for kayak rental; free if you bring your own.

* Intro to mountain biking in Flint Woods, 4:45 p.m., Thursday, July 12, Fitness & Recreation Center. Led by Alison Thayer, vice president of New England Mountain Bike Association. Single track biking on rolling terrain appropriate for beginner and intermediate levels. Helmets required (FRC has helmets along with 10 bikes available for rent). Meet at UMF Fitness and Recreation Center. Cost is $5 for non-members and free for UMF students, faculty, and FRC members.

* Hike Tumbledown Mountain in Weld, 9:45 a.m., Saturday, July 14, Fitness & Recreation Center.

* Intro to canoeing, 5:15 p.m., Tuesday, July 17, Fitness & Recreation Center. FRC Director Jim Toner will offer instruction on basic paddling strokes such as the forward paddle, J-stroke, draw, sweep and pry. Canoes, paddles & PFD’s provided. Space is limited to 12. Meet at UMF Fitness and Recreation Center. Cost is $5 for non-members and free for UMF students, faculty and FRC members.

* River canoe and kayak on the River, 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 21, Fitness & Recreation Center. For all ability levels. Meet at FRC – Paddle down the lower Androscoggin. Free with canoe/kayak or $5 rental.

* Evening geocaching, 4:45 p.m., Monday, July 23, Fitness & Recreation Center.

* Evening mountain bike — Androscoggin River Trail, 4:45 p.m., Tuesday, July 24, Fitness & Recreation Center. Appropriate for all levels. Helmets are required (FRC has helmets along with 10 bikes available for rent). Meet at FRC – Ride in Turner. Cost is $5 for non-members and free for UMF students, faculty, and FRC members.

* Intro to canoeing, 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 24, Fitness & Recreation Center. FRC Director Jim Toner will offer instruction on basic paddling strokes such as the forward paddle, J-stroke, draw, sweep and pry. Canoes, paddles & PFD’s provided. Space is limited to 12. Meet at FRC — paddle on Porter Lake. Cost is $5 for non-members and free for UMF students, faculty, and FRC members.

* Evening flat water canoe and kayak at Wilson Lake, 5:15 p.m., Thursday, July 26, Fitness & Recreation Center. Appropriate for all ability levels. Meet at UMF Fitness and Recreation Center. Free with canoe/kayak of $5 rental.
