All right, enough is enough. I guess it’s time to get rid of cigarettes because they kill stupid people. And while we are at it, let’s get rid of alcoholic beverages and places that sell liquor because stupid people drive drunk and kill other people. Oh, and let’s not forget to get rid of cars and trucks because stupid people speed and cause accidents.
Fireworks, fireworks, fireworks in Gardiner? In Farmingdale? In Randolph? Oh, my goodness, no. We can’t have that because fireworks can hurt stupid people.
Seems to me that the state has enough rules about fireworks to protect the smart people right? Wrong. Apparently we need an ordinance to protect the smart people from the stupid ones.
Fireworks are loaded guns, right? They can burn your house down if they’re not handled properly. So can lightning, so we need to regulate that? Oh wait, my dryer can set my house on fire so we shouldn’t have them in our houses.
Let’s let the rules we have in place work before we start crying wolf. The rules for professionals aren’t as strict as the state rules for personal fireworks. Let’s let the officials that we hire to do the enforcement do their jobs and then if it doesn’t work, let’s fire them.
Randolph residents can stop this unnecessary ordinance before it starts, by being at their town council meeting on July 25. Or maybe it would just be better to enact an ordinance for stupidity.
