AUGUSTA — Old Fort Western recently announced the 2012 Summer Apprentice Program in Association with the 2012 Field School for Young Naturalists at Viles Arboretum.

This program is for children 8-12 years old who are interested in history and nature. The program will be offered Monday through Friday, July 9-13, and Aug. 6-10.

From 8:30 a.m. to noon, children will have the opportunity to apprentice in jobs such as, storekeeper, blacksmith, seamstress and more. Bring a lunch and take a chaperoned bus ride over the Viles Arboretum for an afternoon of interactive and creative hands-on learning within the hundreds of acres of woodlands, fields and streams and ponds. The day will end at 4 p.m. at the arboretum.

The total cost will be $125 per child per week. Pre-registration and payment in full must be received by noon the Friday of the week prior to the beginning of a program session.
