LUNENBURG, Mass. — Police say the investigation into a fatal motorboat accident on a Lunenburg lake remains under investigation, but witnesses told investigators that speed may be a factor.

Acting Police Chief James Marino says 54-year-old David Anderson of Lunenburg died at a hospital after the motorboat he was operating on Lake Shirley flipped at about 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Anderson’s passenger survived and did not require medical attention.

Marino tells The Telegram & Gazette the boat was traveling “at a pretty good clip” when it hit a wake, went up into the air and flipped.

Anderson was rescued by another boater and given CPR on shore before being taken to a hospital.
