I was offended by Samual Foster’s letter printed in the July 1 newspaper, “Use a word different from marriage for gay couples.”
To refer to homosexuals and lesbians as a “sub-species,” I feel, is insulting. Humans are humans. Period.
As for using a different word to describe the legal joining of anyone other than heterosexual, I don’t care for it. “Separate but equal,” as we learned during civil rights struggles, doesn’t work. A couple is either married or not. Trying to find another term for the same institution is confusing and may be taken as derogatory.
And please. What would you call the children of same-sex couples, cubs? Hatchlings? Again, humans are humans and children are children.
