HALLOWELL—A small grass fire that flared Friday on Interstate 95 was sparked after a tire blow out on a tractor trailer.

Lt. Patrick Saucier of the Gardiner Fire Department said the brush fire was contained to a roughly 20 foot by 30 foot area and caused no injuries or property damage.

The fire occurred around 1:30 p.m., in the northbound lane near mile marker 108. Saucier said the tire on the tractor trailer blew out, causing the truck to come to a stop on its rim. Sparks from the rim on the pavement apparently sparked the fire, Saucier said.

Saucier said dry weather is beginning to impact fire levels. He said elevated danger levels are likely next week without a round of rain.
