HALLOWELL — A small grass fire that flared Friday on Interstate 95 was sparked after a tire blew out on a tractor-trailer.
Lt. Patrick Saucier of the Gardiner Fire Department said the brush fire was contained to a roughly 20-foot by 30-foot area and caused no injuries or property damage.
The fire occurred around 1:30 p.m. in the northbound lane near mile marker 108. Saucier said the blowout caused the truck to come to a stop on its rim and sparks from the rim on the pavement apparently ignited the fire.
Saucier said dry weather is beginning to affect fire levels. He said elevated danger levels are likely next week without a round of rain.
