Candidates running for office in Maine don’t spend time catering to the younger end of the political spectrum, as we represent a small part of Maine’s voting population.
As an intern for the Angus King campaign, however, I have learned that this independent candidate stands out in contrast to the norm as somebody who understands the political ideas of Maine’s younger voters.
When he stopped in at my family’s business, Marie’s Whole Foods, as part of one of his Main Street walks, I was amazed as how reachable he is. When I looked further into his campaign, I found that he really is addressing the issues about which my generation is concerned, such as the debt crisis and the role technology will play in our futures.
I am impressed each day by how much King is the honest, thoughtful politician I wished for as a young voter.
