If the government wants to really cut down on spending it could:

  • Ask for proof of citizenship or legal resident status; nonlegal aliens would be reported to Immigration.
  • Cut pork-barrel spending (Congress will not like this one).
  • Go by the laws Congress passes, have a cut in pay and benefits, pay more for their health care and get retirement only after they spend at least 20 years in service, like our military men and women.

Why do the members of Congress not carry their weight in these matters instead of pushing the burden on the taxpayers?

One final thought: Welfare should be one rate, not go by how many children they have. Workers do not get a raise if they have more kids.

These ideas will not sit well with a lot of people, but it would help keep taxes low.
