Farmers across Maine open their operations to the public on Sunday for Open Farm Day. The event is a chance for visitors to learn about farm life and products. The following area farms are participating, according to the Maine Department of Agriculture. For more details, including driving directions, see GetRealMaine.com. Farms are open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., except where noted.
Franklin County
Black Acres Farm
123 Black Road, Wilton
Tours include grass-fed beef, pasture-raised Hereford, hogs, maple-syrup facilities and honey production.
Marble Family Farms
853 Holley Road, Farmington
Displays include belted Galloways, chickens in a “chicken tractor,” sheep and lambs, greenhouses, organic crops, flower gardens as well as demonstrations on grazing and fencing.
Kennebec County
Albion Cider Mill
201 East Benton Road, Albion
Apple cider press, though the farm was uncertain that apples would be available for a demonstration. Open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Alpaca Ranch

20 huacaya and suri alpacas, a guard llama, and Angora rabbits on display.
Echo Ridge Cheese

French-style specialty cheese-making demonstration. Open noon to 5 p.m.
Flood Bros. Dairy Farm

Tours of the milk and calf barns, calving area, manure management system, new milking parlor. Visitors welcome to try feeding calves.
Friends’ Folly Farm

Goat farm and fiber processing mill tours include demonstrations on turning raw fleece into yarn and felt.

Organic dairy farm include tours, baking pretzels in a clay oven at 10:30 a.m., ice cream making at 1 p.m., and an open petting area.

A 40-acre farm built in 1870 on Great Pond. Horse- and oxen-powered, growing organic flowers, herbs and vegetables. Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Albertson’s Equestrian Center

View horses, learn about riding programs, camps, after-school programs.
Avalon Acres Orchard and Farm

Tours and demonstrations about caring for fruit trees and goats, sheep and chickens. Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Farm tours include samples of yogurt, cheese and other fresh dairy products.
Fire Fly Farm

Tours and demonstrations include pizza making with organic vegetables in the farm’s wood-fired clay oven.

Activities include orchard wagon rides, tours of storage and packing facilities, a cider mill and a retail store.

View 11 alpacas, 12 laying chickens, a large vegetable garden and 100-plus highbush blueberries.

Specializing in rabbit and duck for meat. Tours include value of a small homestead, training oxen and composting.

Tours of a hobby farm that includes goats, rabbits, miniature horses and chickens.
