MAPLETON — State warden service divers are searching in a northern Maine lake for a 30-year-old man who attempted to swim across the lake alone.

Officials say a land search was conducted around Hanson Lake in Mapleton, and boats have been on the water as the search goes on.

The missing swimmer was with a group of friends Friday night when he decided to swim across the lake, which is about 250 yards wide in that area.

The missing man’s name was not given because his family had not been notified.
