Dirigo baseball team made a great run through the districts and was crowned District 5 Little League Champion. Now the team is in the state playoffs for 11-12-year-olds.

In the district finals, they hit four home runs in one game (which in itself should have been front page news) against a very determined Hall-Dale team. That team had come out of the losers bracket and played some great baseball.

The game summary was a one-line statement with the score of the game and that Dirigo won the Districts.

For many years, certain teams in central Maine were winning and the newspaper ran pictures and stories about their games. Everything goes in cycles, and the past several years the Dirigo teams have been winning.

The lack of coverage is a disservice to all the teams in District 5 and especially to the players, fans, coaches and fans in the Windsor, Palermo, Vassalboro, Whitefield, Jefferson and China area.

I’ve been involved in our sport programs in many capacities over the years and, without exception, these young boys and girls make us proud every season. Thanking you in advance for increasing coverage in our area.
