LUBEC  — Long-distance runners will race in two countries when the Bay of Fundy Marathon debuts next year.

The marathon will start at Quoddy Head Station in the eastern Maine town of Lubec, cross the Franklin Delano Roosevelt International Bridge and over the Lubec Narrows onto Canada’s Campobello Island. Runners will follow an 18-mile loop on Campobello before crossing back into Maine, where the marathon will end at the Lubec town landing.

The marathon is scheduled for June 23 next year.

Organizer Katherine Cassidy told the Bangor Daily News that runners will be required to show passports when they register. Marathon entries will be submitted to the Bureau of Homeland Security, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency and the Canadian Border Services for clearance before the race.
