Why is Waterville even debating the location of the new police station?

Maybe I watch too many movies or maybe I read the newspaper, but Head of Falls is a trap.

If someone wanted to plan ahead of time they could put the police in a great disadvantage with their backs to the Kennebec River. A prison needs this kind of protection, not first responders.

The American Legion parking lot is the second choice; better than Head of Falls, but still not great. It has two exits, but Front Street is one way.

Colby Circle is the latest choice, and by far the most sensible one. It has several exits, several options for expanding avenues of egress to several city streets. The court house is busy with other law enforcement officers, providing many hours of added protection if needed. And the presence of police there would help control any problems from the new homeless shelter.

All this debate and all this waste of time and money boils down to a little common sense. I think the officers should have a say, after all they are the people that many times make a difference between life and death. Their opinions should be respected, and their service should be appreciated.
