Fitzpatrick earns dean’s list status
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Colleen Fitzpatrick of Waterville, a freshman culinary arts major, was recently named to the spring trimester dean’s list at Johnson & Wales University.
Food preservation workshop Aug. 9
FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Office of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, 138 Pleasant St. will offer a three-hour food preservation workshop from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9. Felicia Dumont, Cooperative Extension Food Preservation Program Aide, will teach the class. Cost is $12.
Poetry contest open to Waterville area
WATERVILLE — A $1,000 grand prize is being offered to the last poet standing in a free contest sponsored by the Celestial Arts Society. Poems of any subject and in any style must be 21 lines or less.

Greenhouse program grows
LIBERTY — The Walker School, an elementary school in Regional School Unit 3, will host a FoodCorps associate for the 2012-13 school year. Katie Morabito will travel to Maine from Michigan in August to work with the students, teachers and the active group of greenhouse volunteers to extend what is in place at the school.
Athens intersection to close for parade
ATHENS — Route 150 from the intersection of Route 151 at the Athens post office to the Athens fairgrounds will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, July 21, for a parade.
