MONMOUTH — An Augusta man is facing charges after reportedly giving police his brothers name during a traffic stop.

Jeffrey McKechnie Jr., 32, was charged with violating conditions of release, failure to give a correct name and trafficking dangerous weapons.

Monmouth Police Officer Dana Wessling wrote in an affidavit filed in Kennebec County Superior Court that he had stopped McKechnie’s car early Monday morning.

The driver gave Wessling a name and a date of birth, Wessling said, “but during my investigation I discovered that he was lying,” Wessling said.

The officer subsequently found documentation with McKechnies correct identification. He admitted using his brothers name, Wessling said.

Wessling searched McKechnie’s car and reportedly found a switchblade knife and drug paraphernalia, including needles and a burnt spoon.
