AUGUSTA—An equipment failure knocked power to fewer than 100 customers Monday night on the east side of the city.

Central Maine Power spokeswoman Gail Rice said a malfunctioning lightning arrestor was responsible for disrupting service to 79 customers in the South Belfast Avenue area.

Rice said the disruption occurred at 9:39 p.m. and lasted until crews fixed the problem at 11:14 p.m.

No further disruptions are anticipated.
