WALDOBORO—A local woman has been charged in connection with the shooting death of her boyfriend last month on Friendship Road.

Arline Seavey, 25, is charged with the murder of 34-year-old Norman Benner of Waldoboro. Seavey was arrested Wednesday upon her release from Spring Harbor Hospital in Westbrook, said Maine State Police spokesman Steve McCausland. She was being held at the Cumberland County Jail in Portland.

Seavey, who also goes by the name Arline Lawless, is expected to make her first court appearance later this week in Lincoln County Superior Court.

Spring Harbor Hospital specializes in treating individuals, “with acute mental illness or dual disorders issues,” according to the hospital website.

Seavey is charged with shooting Benner last month inside the home she rented on Friendship Road. Family members have said Benner often stayed at the home. He reportedly told his mother he wanted to break up with Seavey, his girlfriend of four months, before the shooting.

Seavey suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face and has been treated for that injury since July 23, when Benner’s body was discovered by his relatives inside the home, McCausland said. Seavey also was still inside the home, suffering the effects of the gunshot wound.
