MANCHESTER — A local woman has been charged after repeatedly calling 911 to help with a family dispute while sheriff’s deputies were standing in her home.

Susan Marie Walker, 50, was arrested Sunday and charged with misuse of the emergency 911 system. Walker was reportedly held at the Kennebec County jail overnight before she was released early Monday morning.

“She basically made several calls to 911 regarding a non-criminal family dispute while deputies were on scene,” said Capt. Daniel Davies of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.

Walker called the Kennebec Journal after her release from jail Monday morning to complain about her arrest. She said she told police that her daughter’s boyfriend was damaging her property, including her car, and police refused to investigate.

But Davies said deputies responding to Walker’s Treasure Lane home determined the woman’s daughter and boyfriend were simply packing up to leave the home. The couple caused no damage to the property, Davies said.

Davies said Walker was intoxicated at the time she made the 911 calls.

“She apparently thought it appropriate to call because the deputies weren’t doing anything to stop her (daughter) from leaving,” Davies said.

He said Walker called 911 for help three different times while deputies were on scene. Walker on Monday estimated that she had called 911 a total of five or six times.

Each call resulted in a separate warning against misusing the 911 system, Davies said. “Deputies had been gone less than 10 minutes and Walker called 911 again,” he said.

Deputies returned to Treasure Lane and arrested Walker. She was taken to jail for the night.
