MLB: Healthy Rogers enjoying success
CHICAGO — The last month has been something of a rush for Mark Rogers. Since the Milwaukee Brewers promoted him from the minor leagues on July 28, Rogers has earned his first two victories as a major-league pitcher — and made stops in three states in four days so he could be with his wife, Kerrie, when she gave birth to their first child (7 pounds, 20 inches) on Aug. 13. “Crazy, right?” the native of Orrs Island, Maine, said with a huge smile.
CORRECTION: Wrong name in letter
A letter to the editor in Monday’s edition, “A fervent hope we never use A-bombs again,” should have referred to Col. Paul Tibbetts. His first name was wrong in the letter. It was an editor’s error.
Michaud earns Ph.D. in Minnesota
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Amanda M. Michaud recently earned a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. She is a 2003 graduate of Mountain Valley High School in Rumford.
Pig roast, auction Saturday — Sukefourth’s BingSol event raises funds for Hospice program
BINGHAM — Doug and Rita Sukeforth will host the 5th annual BingSol Pig Roast and Auction Saturday at “BingSol,” their family camp. This event is open to the public. Proceeds will benefit Hospice Volunteers of Waterville Area and the Spectrum Generations Meals on Wheels program of Kennebec and Somerset counties. The Sukeforth Family organizes the event with help from their family and friends.

SACO — Thornton Academy’s Garland Auditorium in Saco was recently the setting for the third annual Maine Academic Scholarship Pageant where 41 young women vied for their respective titles.
Somerset Grist Mill to collect food through September
SKOWHEGAN — The Somerset Grist Mill will accept food and cash contributions for the Skowhegan Food Cupboard during the month of September. The Greater Somerset Public Health Collaborative and United Way of Mid-Maine offer the program which connects local businesses and area food cupboards in an effort to provide nutritional support to those who live in the region. Main Street Skowhegan, Skowhegan Rotary, Madison Business Alliance and Norridgewock Chamber of Commerce have endorsed the project.
