AUBURN — Julia Lawrence scored with 1 minute, 7 seconds left in overtime as the Lawrence field hockey team won its season opener, beating Edward Little 1-0 in a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A game Friday.

Lawrence knocked in a rebound of a shot by Alexis Chamberlain on the game-winner.

Emily Tozier made three saves to earn the win for Lawrence (1-0-0).

Amanda Williams had 18 saves for Edward Little (0-1-0).

Gardiner 1, MCI 0: Nicole Chadwick scored an unassisted goal with 28:14 left in the first half as the Tigers beat the Huskies in the KVAC B opener for both teams, in Pittsfield.

Emalee Couture earned the win with five saves for Gardiner (1-0-0). Courtney Sprague had seven saves for MCI (0-1-0).

Waterville 6, Morse 0: Jena Nawfel had three goals as the Purple Panthers beat the Shipbuilders in a KVAC B game in Waterville.

Gaby Bridger, Jenna Gagnon and Bri Bernier all added goals for Waterville (1-0-0). Valerie Spaulding earned the shutout in goal.

Thursday’s games

Skowhegan 5, Mt. Ararat 0: The Indians opened defense of their Class A state title with a shutout of Mt. Ararat on Thursday.

The Indians were locked in a scoreless tie at halftime as the Eagles packed in their defense, but the offense opened up in the second half. Sarah Finnemore scored two goals, one on a penalty stroke, and added an assist while Renee Wright, Holly Lupo and Mikayla Toth added single goals.

Makaela Michonski contributed two assists and Allison Lancaster had one.

Mt. View 2, Mt. Blue 0: Braley Leadbetter and Brittany Masessa each scored goals as the Mustangs won in the season opener for both teams, in Thorndike.

Abby Stubbs assisted on Leadbetter’s goal. Abbie Charrier made one save for Mt. View.

Rileigh Blanchet had 17 saves for Mt. Blue.

Winslow 4, Maranacook 0: Ciera Poulin scored a pair of goals as the Black Raiders defeated the Black Bears in Winslow.

Mackenzie Winslow and Brittany White also scored for Winslow (1-0). Bethany Winkin had two assists, while Allie LeClair and Sarah Wildes had one apiece.

Alexis Lachance had three saves for the Raiders. Bri Gotez stopped seven shots for Maranacook (0-1).
