SKOWHEGAN — A local man was arrested Thursday morning and his female companion was hospitalized after a report of a domestic disturbance at Indian Ridge apartments.

Eric P. Leiby, 29, allegedly injured a woman by grabbing her throat and throwing her into furniture in the apartment, according to Deputy Police Chief Dale Lancaster. She was taken to Redington-Fairview General Hospital with non life-threatening injuries, Lancaster said.

The Morning Sentinel does not name victims of domestic violence.

Five Skowhegan police officers, an ambulance and a state trooper responded to the call and searched the immediate vicinity for Leiby who had fled, Lancaster said.

Officer Stanley Guilmette eventually spotted Leiby coming out of the woods on Willow Street and arrested him without incident. Leiby was taken to the Somerset County Jail where he is being held without bail, according to a jail intake worker.

Leiby is charged with domestic violence assault and violation of the conditions of release.
